Who we are
Abokina is a language-learning app for learning Hausa, operated by Sauri Logistics Nigeria. Our website address is: https://abokina.africa. This policy explains what personal data the Abokina mobile app, web app and website collect, why we collect it, and the choices you have.
What data we collect
When you create an account, we collect your email address and password. You may also choose to give us your name, your age and a profile photo. These optional fields help us personalise your lessons and are never required to use the app.
When you use the app, we record your learning progress. This includes the lessons and exercises you complete, your answers, your experience points (XP), your daily streak and the dates you studied.
We do not collect your location, contacts, or microphone recordings, and we do not show third-party advertising in the app.
Profile photos and media
If you add a profile photo, the app asks for permission to use your camera or photo library. Only the photo you choose and crop is uploaded; we do not access the rest of your library. You should avoid uploading photos with embedded location data (EXIF GPS).
The app downloads lesson audio and images and stores them on your device so lessons work offline. These files contain no personal data.
AI tutor
Abokina includes an AI conversation tutor. When you chat with the tutor, your messages, the recent conversation history and a short summary of your learning level are sent to OpenAI to generate a reply and corrections. Under OpenAI's API terms, this data is not used to train OpenAI's models and is kept by OpenAI for no longer than 30 days for abuse monitoring. Please do not share sensitive personal information in tutor conversations.
Embedded content from other websites
Pages on our website may include embedded content (for example videos or images). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if you had visited the other website. Those websites may collect data about you, use cookies and monitor your interaction with that content.
Where your data is sent
Our service providers may store and process data on servers outside your country, including in the United States and the European Union. Where this happens, we rely on the providers' contractual safeguards to protect your data.
How long we retain your data
We keep your account information and learning progress for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we must keep some information for legal, security or administrative purposes.
AI tutor messages are kept only as long as needed to provide the conversation and your learning summary.
What rights you have over your data
You can view and edit your name, age and profile photo in the app at any time. You can delete your account from Settings > Delete account, or by emailing us.
You can also ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to erase it. Depending on where you live, you may have further rights under laws such as the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 or the EU/UK GDPR, including the right to complain to your data protection authority.

Children
Abokina is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13 without the consent of a parent or guardian. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
We protect your data with encrypted connections (HTTPS), secure on-device storage for sign-in tokens, and access controls on our servers. No system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make significant changes, we will notify you in the app or by email and update the effective date above.
